As we move into the fall, I thought it was an appropriate moment to
revisit the mission behind NewsCloud as an independent social media
website.
A lot of people say to me, "Tell me more about NewsCloud and how I
can use it." In response, I've created a new background page for the
site which highlights our mission and has helpful links to getting
started with the site.
"Our mission is to provide a diverse spectrum of
must read stories, breaking news, and opinion from around the world. On
any visit to NewsCloud, you should find a unique mix of stories posted
by our community which maintain a persistent focus on important issues
of the day. Come to NewsCloud for vibrant, thoughtful discussions and
the context and resources behind the news.
It is also our mission to provide open source technologies such as the
NewsCloud platform, web services and widgets that help organizations
use social media to strengthen their own communities.
In an age of unprecedented corporate media consolidation, NewsCloud is
an independently owned and operated publication. As our resources are
currently limited, the site today represents only the beginning of this
vision. Please be patient with us as we grow."
The new page also includes information about: how you can
participate, ways to follow NewsCloud stories, getting involved with
our open source work, supporting our mission and sending us your
feedback.
